A posthumous award of a purple heart, made to Corporal Joe Harris, has been received here by his mother, Mrs. Minnie Harris. Corporal Harris was killed in action in the battle for the Palau Islands on September 30, 1944. Joe was a member of the famous 81st Wildcat Infantry Division and is the first graduate of Morning Sun High School known to have died in action in the present war.
