GRANDVIEW, Iowa

Raleigh Dean "Junior" Barber Jr., 76, Grandview, died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

The Rev. David Seelye will officiate the services. Casket bearers are Kenny Gamble, Michael Barber, John Hathaway, Tommy Riley and Matt Michell. Burial will be at the Colubus City Cemetery.

Mr. Barber was born Aug. 17, 1928, in Hardy, the son of Raleigh Dean Barber Sr. and Eunice Delia Stout Barber. He married Sonia Beth Schreiber Nov. 15, 1952, in Wapello. She preceded him in death Oct. 8, 1992.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.

He retired in 1984 from Thatcher's Manufacturing Plant after 34 years of service.

He was a source of humor, wisdom and friendship to many. He was a beloved father, brother, friend and husband. He loved fishing, telling jokes, a good card game, watching Hawkeye sports, and his family and friends above all else.

Survivors include a son, Michael D. Barber and wife Vonnie of Muscatine; two daughters, Cindy S. Barber and Kenny Gamble of Wilton and Lydia R. Riley of Boynton, Beach, Fla.; a brother, David Barber of Honolulu, Hawaii; two sisters, Lois "Babe" Bliven of Iowa City and Gloria Oliver of Laguna Beach, Calif,; and two grandsons, Matt Mitchell of Iowa City and Tommy Riley of Wilton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a brother, Howard Kenneth Barber.
