Wapello, Ia., July 26. --(Special.)
A drowning occurred this afternoon in the Iowa River near the "Hogback" bridge between Wapello and Grandview, when a Grandview lad, Dale Mahuren, lost his life while swimming.

On account of the inaccessible location of the scene of the accident it was difficult to learn the details here but according to the best information obtainable the body of the Mahuren boy had not been recovered at a late hour this afternoon.

It was also reported that a companion of Mahuren's Howard Cocklin, was taken from the river in an unconscious condition and the results of the immediate and strenuous efforts that were made to resuscitate him could not be learned this afternoon.

Young Mahuren is an orphan and had made his home with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Kemp, residing on a farm near Grandview. Cocklin is the son of Clinton Cocklin of Grandview. The first named lad was about 16 years of age and the other, 15 years old. No details as to the cause of the drownings could be learned here this afternoon.
