Tuesday, November 30, 1915, was a big day for Mr. and Mrs. Alex Hidlebaugh, of Letts, for it was on that day fifty years ago that they were united in the holy bonds of marriage. About sixty of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and intimate friends gathered at their hospitable home to help them celebrate. The house was beautifully decorated with yellow chrysanthemums and the large table had a huge bouquet of these beautiful fall flowers as a centerpiece.
At the noon hour the sixty guests sat down to a big feast prepared by the daughters and granddaughters, and that they did full justice to it is a foregone conclusion.
Mr. Hidlebaugh was born in Ohio August 22, 1840, and Mrs. Hidlebaugh was born in Louisa county, Iowa, October 16, 1844. They were united in marriage at the old Wagner Homestead east of Letts, November 30, 1865. Eight children were born to this union, six of whom are living; Mrs. Cora Fullerton, Mrs. Mary Rhyner, Mrs. Bell Brown, Mrs. Nett Walters, John Hidlebaugh, all of Letts; Will Hidlebaugh, of Elmore, Minn. All were present with the exception of the latter. There are twenty-four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Hidlebaugh were remembered by many substantial and beautiful gifts from their relatives and friends, among them being cut glass, hand-painted china and currency.
This good old couple experience good health considering their age. Mrs. Hidlebaugh celebrated her 71st birthday in October and Mr. Hidlebaugh his 75th in August of this year. Mr. H. suffered a stroke of paralysis some years ago which left him a little lame, but he is able to get around in nice shape. Mrs. H. is her own housekeeper.
The out-of-town guests present were Mr. and Mrs. James S. Kelly, of this city, and Mrs. Henry Fullerton, of Minnesota. Mr. Kelly was present at the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Hidlebaugh fifty years ago, and it was a source of pleasure to him to be with them on their wedding day 50 years hence.
