Mrs. Lincoln, Pioneer C.R. Resident, Dies
Mrs. Fannie Atwell Lincoln, 98, of 713 Eighth street SE, widow of George A. Lincoln and a Cedar Rapids resident for 96 years, died in a local hospital at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday following a brief illness.
Born May 3, 1848, at Senecaville, Ohio, she came to Cedar Rapids in a covered wagon in 1850. On Feb 17, 1869, she was married to George A. Lincoln, who formerly was postmaster and mayor of Cedar Rapids and Iowa state fish commissioner. She always had lived in the 700 block on Eighth street.
The only surviving relative is a daughter, Mrs. Bertha L. Canniff of Cedar Rapids.
Mrs. Lincoln was a member of St. John’s Episcopal church, Malta Chapter No. 415, O.E. S. and was a graduate of the Washington high school about 1866.
Mrs. Lincoln worked for 50 years in Grace church starting when Grace church Sunday school was on First street and Third avenue E. She was a director of the Charlotte Bever Memorial Guild of St. Luke’s hospital.
Services will be conducted in the Turner chapel Saturday. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery. (Source: The Gazette, Cedar Rapids, IA, Thu, Jan 2, 1947, pg. 3)
