Marilyn Lucille Roushar, 90, a resident of Meth-Wick Community, Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, August 11, 2022, at the Woodlands.

Marilyn was born December 11, 1931, in Marshalltown, Iowa, daughter of Guy and Helen Morris. After high school, Marilyn attended nurses training at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, and graduated as an RN. Marilyn and George were united in marriage on August 10, 1953, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City.

At nursing school, when Marilyn saw a picture of George, the brother of her friend Helen Roushar, she had the gumption to steer George into marriage and away from the priesthood. Marilyn and George enjoyed a long marriage of 67 years. She devoted herself to raising a family and worked outside the home for Family Services and Mercy Home Health Care in Cedar Rapids. She and George were active volunteers with Hospice of Mercy and Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity. Mimi was the embodiment of caregiving, whether for her family, professional clients, neighbors, or friends. “Putting faith into action” was Marilyn’s motto. Marilyn was a breast cancer survivor of 45 years.

Marilyn is survived by her children: Thomas Roushar (Kathy) Madison, Wisconsin, Helen Roushar (Keith Yenter) Iowa City, Frances Roushar (Ron Bedford) Cedar Rapids, and Mary Drohan (Tom) Gig Harbor, Washington; daughter-in-law: Carmela Owen Roushar, San Diego, California; grandchildren: Ray (Christina) Roushar, Lee Roushar, Virginia Drohan (Stephen Astin), George Drohan, and Daniel Owen; great-grandson: Wade Roushar; sisters-in-law: Helen Oldis and Pat Roushar, and many nieces and nephews.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, George P. Roushar, two sons, Joseph Roushar and George V. Roushar, her parents, her sister, Darlene Stewart, and brothers-in-law, Chuck Roushar, and Phil Oldis.

Marilyn donated her body to the Carver College of Medicine, Deeded Body Program to enable medical education at the University of Iowa.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 15 at Saint Pius X Catholic Church. The family requests that you join them for a luncheon and refreshments in the Pius Hall after the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Community Health Free Clinic or Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity.
