Vincent Louis O’Connor, 68 of Cedar Rapids, died on Monday, August 22, 2022 at his home from cancer. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Friday, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Hiawatha by Rev. Gary Mayer. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A Vigil Service will be held at 3 p.m., on Thursday at Teahen Funeral Home. Those not attending the Vigil Service may visit with the family from 3:30 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and after 9:30 a.m. on Friday at the church.
Vince is survived by his wife of 43 years, Michele; sons, Charlie (Kim) O’Connor of Circle Pines, MN and Ben O’Connor (Jenn Germaine) of Asheville, NC; daughter, Jessica (Benjamin) Wagner of Zwingle; granddaughters, Arabella and Iris Wagner and Nola and Kiera O’Connor; sisters, Barb (Gerry) Middendorf and Marjorie O’Connor; brothers, N. Chuck O’Connor (Vicki Horton) and Paul (Geri) O’Connor; father and mother-in-law David and Gloria Cahalan; sisters-in-law and husbands, Kathleen (Don) and Diane (Dave) and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and nephew, Todd Middendorf.
Vince was born on April 28, 1954 in Dubuque, the son of Louis and Kathleen Keniry O’Connor. He attended St. Columbkille Grade School and graduated from Wahlert High School in 1972 and received a BA in Accounting from Loras College in 1977. Vince married Michele Cahalan on June 8, 1979 in Dubuque. He was an auditor for the Iowa Department of Revenue for 32 years, retiring in 2010, and after his retirement he did seasonal income tax preparation for Latta Harris for 10 years. Vince was a longtime treasurer for the St. Vincent de Paul Council of Cedar Rapids and also served as a member of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church Conference. He was also on the board and outdoor crew member at Prairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality Center.
Vince enjoyed golfing, reading, traveling, and walking (if it wasn't 3 miles in 40 minutes - it didn't count!). He loved spending time with his grandchildren and will be deeply missed.
Memorials may be directed to the St. Vincent de Paul Society or to Prairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality Center.
