Michael “Mike” Maurice Black, 69 of Cedar Rapids died on Friday, July 22, 2022 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following a battle with cancer. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, July 25, 2022 in The Monarch Room at Teahen Funeral Home from 11a.m. to 1 p.m.
Mike is survived by his wife Linda; two sons Bruce Black of Dixon, IL and Jesse Black (Jenna Gardner) of Cedar Rapids; two granddaughters Karanna and Lola and his brother Rick (Deb) Black of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Michael was born on October 27, 1952 in Ottumwa the son of Maurice and Barbara Feldmann Black. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1970 and received an Associate’s Degree in Automotive Repair from Kirkwood Community College. On October 16, 1982 Mike married Linda Schrader at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Fairfax. Mike was a steel polisher and machinist through the years working for Cherry-Burrell/Evergreen, Midland Forge and Midwest Metals retiring in 2018.
Mike enjoyed riding Harleys and bought his first one in 1972. He was a member of A.B.A.T.E., a brotherhood of motorcycle enthusiast that works towards education and safety for riders. He loved to participate in Poker runs and charity rides including for the DIVAS Motorcycle Club.
Mike’s family would like to thank Dr. Wood and his staff, all the staff at Mercy Medical Center and the Hospice House of Mercy for their caring and compassionate care.
