Michael “Waldo” R. Waltermyer, passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2022 following his short battle with cancer. Michael was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather (Papa). He was a great friend to many. Services: 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 22, 2022 at St. Ludmila Catholic Church. A Celebration of Life will follow later that evening from 4 -7 p.m. at The Knights of Columbus, 1620 E Ave NE. Teahen Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family.
Michael’s life is carried forward by his wife of 40 years, Connie; two sons: Bradly (Ann) Waltermyer and Daxton (Trish) Waltermyer; three stepsons, John (Mary) Wyckoff, Craig Wyckoff, and Matthew (Katy) Wyckoff; and his 14 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Doralee and Harold Waltermyer; and stepfather, Frank Pachta.
Michael was born in Cedar Rapids and was a resident for the entirety of his life. He worked at Quaker Oats for 41 years, where he met his lovely wife, Connie. They were married on November 7, 1981 and merged together their family of five sons.
Michael had many friends all over the city of Cedar Rapids. Everywhere he went he knew somebody. Michael was known to have a very wild and free spirit. He enjoyed all aspects of the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, raising his chickens, gardening, hanging out with friends at the campground, and hosting family grill outs on the patio. He loved to cook and have a drink with all of his friends and family, especially on the infamous Pizza Saturdays where his sons Bradly and Matthew would have cook-offs for the best pizza the entire family could enjoy.
Michael had many great hobbies and passions. He was a great fan of the Chicago Bears, only to raise a Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders fan. He greatly enjoyed going to the Wisconsin Dells with his wife, always bringing back salt water taffy and some extra cash in his pockets. He had huge love for his many dogs over his lifetime, especially Bugsy, who was just as wild as Michael.
Michael had a few particularly interesting and unique hobbies. He raised tropical fish for many years and typically had up to 20 fish tanks in his house at a time. He enjoyed the beauty and calming sense the fish brought to his home. He also had an interesting fascination with Bigfoot. The majority of the time spent on his laptop was researching the mythical creature, which his family enjoyed teasing him about.
Michael loved many things in his time but nothing more than his family. He loved all of his children as his own and always took care of his family. He loved his wife Connie especially.
Michael’s eccentric and untamed spirit will live forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Special thanks to all the staff at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Cedar Rapids Mercy Hospital, and Northbrook Manor Care Center.
