Steven Howard Miller, 74, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, July 11, 2022 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics following a long battle with cancer. Steven selflessly donated his body to the deeded body program at the University of Iowa following his death. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday July 24, 2022 2 to 5 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home.
Steve is survived by his daughters, Colbi (Jermelle) Lewis and Amber (Jim) Dostal, both of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Keon and Simone; brothers, David (Chris) Miller, Ron (Jan) Delaney and Tom (Dorene) Delaney; sisters, Leslie (Paul) Bates, Debbie (Don) Crane and Gayle (Frank) Gergely; brother-in-law, Dave Folkedahl; sister-in-law, Debbie Miller; and a large extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step father, Elmer Delaney; and siblings, Bob Miller and Linda Folkedahl.
Steve was born on October 5, 1947 in Cedar Rapids, son of William and Betty Abshire Miller. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1965, from NE Missouri State University, Kirksville, in 1970, and attended the masters program in Special Education at the University of Iowa. Steve served in the Army during the Vietnam conflict. He married Nancy Bevins in August, 1969 in Cedar Rapids; they were later divorced. Steve was a Special Needs teacher at Kennedy High School, owned Cedar Rapids Pools for 20 years, and also managed storage units for his brother. He was an active member of Stonebridge Church, performing as a youth mentor, coordinator for buildings and grounds, usher, and a Men’s Bible Study leader.
Steve loved family, especially spending time with his grandchildren. He was a wonderful man who was known to be a trouble maker, and will be missed deeply by his family and friends.
Instead of flowers please direct memorials to either the family, American Cancer Society or another charity.
