Adeline Louise Volesky, 97, of Cedar Rapids, died in her beloved farm home on Monday, June 6, 2022. Celebration of life services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 10, 2022, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Burial will follow at Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 9, 2022, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.

Adeline was born March 17, 1925, in rural Western, the daughter of Louis and Antonia (Matyk) Jansa. She attended school near Western and graduated from Shueyville High School. She attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI), where she earned a Teaching Certificate, and later taught schools in rural Linn County. Adeline married John Volesky on June 5, 1945, at the First Bohemian and Moravian Church. They farmed together in Cedar Rapids for over 65 years. She was interested in the children’s activities and served on the 4-H Youth Committee as well as six years on the Linn County Fair Board. After a trip to Czechoslovakia, in 1982, she became interested in her Czech heritage and became a member of the Czech Heritage Foundation, serving as secretary, newsletter editor for seven years and a twenty-year volunteer with the Educational Kit to schools, festivals and exhibits. She served eight years as State Chairman for the Miss Czech Slovak Iowa Pageant. She was a member of the National Czech and Slovak Museum Library where she served as a tour guide. In 1974, she served as the Linn County Farm Bureau Women’s Chairman. In 1979, she was named Iowa Merritt Mother and served as secretary and literary chairman. In 1980, she was one of five Iowa Master Farm Homemakers and served as State secretary and National Vice-President. She was member of Asbury United Methodist Church and Chada-Pautz Fellowship. She enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzle, quilting, baking, and most all spending with her family.

Adeline is survived by three children Carol (Larry) Junis of Davenport, Nadine (Rick) Petrik of Cedar Rapids, and Dennis (Debbie) Volesky of Swisher; five grandchildren Scott Baumgartner, Todd (Lindsay) Baumgartner, Kimberly (Toby) Sargent, Lisa (Nik) Parra and Craig (Greta) Volesky as well as six great-grandchildren Kaiya, Shannon, Alliauna and Quinndalyn Baumgartner, Max and Ryker Parra; sisters-in-law Marge Jansa of Western, Blanche Volesky and Eleanor Hegland both of Cedar Rapids, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, sister Leona (Harold) Poduska, her brother Leonard Jansa, son-in-law Lon Anderson, brothers-in-law Lawrence Volesky and Dale Hegland.

Memorials may be directed to Czech Heritage Foundation and or Hospice of Mercy.
