OBITUARY
Richard E. Rowell, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Mercy Hallmar. Services: 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Teahen Funeral Home. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday and after 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at the church.
Richard is survived by two sons Richard Rowell of Cedar Rapids and Dean (Jill) Rowell of Springville; three grandsons Chad of Marion, Spencer (Jade) of Springville and Tyler (Cassie) of Cedar Rapids; two great grandchildren Simon and Ripley both of Springville; brother in law Dean (Pat) Gould and many nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife Janet, his parents, two brothers Tom and Bob Rowell, and sister Patty.
Richard was born February 9, 1931 in Cedar Rapids the son of Ray and Lola Bishop Rowell. He married Janet Gould on April 16, 1955 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Richard was a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War. He worked at Iowa Manufacturing for many years and then the US Post Office starting in 1960 retiring in 1989. Richard was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Early Ford V-8 Club of America.
Richard enjoyed fishing, gardening, working on cars in the garage especially his Model A Ford and 1954 pickup, and attending Marine Corp League meetings. Richard went on one of the very first Honor Flights with his grandson, Spencer and it was a trip he would never forget. He loved banana cream pie, and spending time with his grandchildren, and his dog Itsy.
