ROBERT ALAN LEVY SR.

Cedar Rapids

Robert Alan Levy Sr., passed away peacefully from complications of diabetes on March 17, 2022, at home, surrounded by the love of his family. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 26, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where a visitation will begin at 9 a.m., until service time. Burial: Oakhill Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Richard Reed will officiate. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Bobby was born on June 7, 1949, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Viola Tate Levy and Oscar Levy. He graduated from Washington High School and the University of Iowa with a degree in industrial relations. He married his wife, Linda, in Cedar Rapids. They had two children, Trina and Robbie. Upon graduating, he began working at Cryovac in Cedar Rapids and worked there for 35 years, most of that time as supervisor for the Shipping and Receiving department. He retired in 2008. He was a lifetime member of the NAACP. Throughout his life, he enjoyed golfing, boating, bowling league, his cars, collecting cookbooks, and always music, music, music.

Bobby dreamed of having things and doing things that were out of his reach as a child. He wanted a beautiful home filled with nice things. He had the first waterbed, first hot tub, first big screen TV. He wanted nice cars, trips to Las Vegas, cruises. He worked hard to make those dreams come true. But most of all, he wanted that beautiful home to be filled with joyous people he loved and who loved him. He made that dream come true, too, sharing his passion for cooking at his annual Thanksgiving feasts and Fourth of July barbeques, Hawkeye game parties, and any other excuse to celebrate with his friends, always with loud music and flowing beer accompaniment. He will be greatly missed.

Bobby is survived by his wife, Linda Scheer Levy; his daughter, Trina Levy (Russell Grout) of Raleigh, N.C.; his son, Robert Alan Levy Jr., of Cedar Rapids; sisters, Carole Bernard and Anita Derrick (Maurice) of Cedar Rapids and Valerie Cook of Shakopee, Minn.; his brothers-in-law, Chris Scheer (Karen) and Bob Nickerson; as well as a host of nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly, and extended family throughout the country.

Bobby was preceded in death by his mother, Viola Levy; his father, Oscar Levy; his sister, Leila Ward; and his great-niece, Sophia Nickerson.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
