Goldia Neveln, Cedar Rapids
Goldia Neveln, 97, formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away on March 14, 2022, at Lantern Park Specialty Care in Iowa City. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, March 21, at Noelridge Christian Church in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Interment will immediately follow at Cedar Memorial. Goldia was born on Oct. 20, 1924, in Newton, Iowa, to Merlyn and Alice (Parks) Guessford. Following graduation from Kellogg High School in Kellogg, Iowa, Goldia attended Des Moines Business College where she received her Associates degree. On March 9, 1947, Goldia married Edwin Neveln at the Kellogg Christian Church and to this union, five children were born. The family moved to Des Moines where Goldia worked at several insurance companies and accounting firms. When they decided to make their home in Cedar Rapids, she worked at Oshman & Sons as well as Transworld Hides & Furs prior to retirement in the late 1980s. In her spare time she enjoyed crafting, sewing, needlepoint and knitting as well as playing card games, solving Sudoku puzzles and mastering Jeopardy. She belonged to the Eastern Star and was appointed an officer with the Ladies of the Blue Goose. Goldia is survived by her children, David Neveln, Gary Neveln and Annette Steckel; sisters, Ida Eivins and Merna Guessford; grandchildren, Joshua, Kelly, Izaak, James, Jeff, Nicole and Brandon; and great-grandchildren, Seth, Nathan, Gavin, Greta, Adam, Lucas, Elliott and Claire. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Edwin; children, Rosalee and Earl Neveln; sisters, Hester Wyatt, Florence Nichols, Pearl Guessford and Earline Guessford; daughter-in-law, Dee Ann Neveln and brothers-in-law, Jerry Wyatt, Darrell Eivins and Wilbur "Mack" Nichols. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kellogg Christian Church or to Noelridge Christian Church and online condolences may be shared at www.lensingfuneral.com.
