David Eugene Remerowski (1946-2022)

Central City

David Eugene Remerowski, 75, of Central City, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at St. Luke's Hospice following a long illness. David was born in Hendricks, Minn., on Dec. 24, 1946. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1963 to 1985.

He married Leticia Longoria on Sept. 30, 1967, and began building their family while moving to various places around the country before settling in Central City. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother who touched the lives of so many others with his kindness and strength.

After his retirement from the service, he worked for Linn County Public Health as a facilities manager and a rural carrier for the Coggon Post Office, enjoying an official retirement in 2010.

David enjoyed going to the casinos, watching gameshows and westerns, and playing board and card games with his family. He was at his happiest when spending time with his grandchildren.

David is survived by his loving wife, Lety; son, Michael and wife, Sarah of Cedar Rapids; son, Dan of Fairfax; daughter, Lori of Central City; four grandchildren, Brayden and Grant of Cedar Rapids, and Vaun and Ava of Mount Vernon; his loving sisters, Sharon Madison of New Richmond, Wis., Carol Mittelstaedt of Aberdeen, S.D., Candis Myers and Wanda Kreamayer, both of St. James, Mo., and Jody Nelson of Cottonwood, Minn.; and aunt, Gail Tomasczewski. He is also survived by three nephews and three nieces.

David was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Anderson; father, Irvin Remerowski; uncle, Ray Remerowski; and aunt, Gloria Reckhoff.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Iowa City VA Medical Center CDCE/Voluntary Services.

A special thank you to St. Luke's Rehabilitation, ICU and Hospice Care for taking such wonderful care of David. A special thank you Jenny Schulte, Marcia Barth Leick, and Megan Snyder at the Iowa City VA Medical Center, who helped David tremendously with their care and support.
