Marion Sentinel Thursday February 13, 1902
Obituary.
Mrs. Mary A. Bulkley, nee Seals, was born in Decatur county, Iowa, March 9, 1878. She was one of a family of six children three of whom, Mrs. P.W. Haas, of Central City, and Edmond and Scott Seals, of Marion, with the mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Sherrill, also of Marion, survive her. Although the father died when Mary was but four years of age the family unity was preserved and the child enabled to profit by the advantages of a well-appointed home and the culturing influences of a wholesome home life. These blessings were not lost on the deceased. She grew to love home, welcome its duties and finally reverence its responsibilities.
Deceased was married to Benj. Bulkley, Oct. 21st, 1895. The union has been a happy one, cheered and strengthened by the coming of two most lovable children--both girls. In his sad bereavement these sweet children are the chief consolation of the husband and father who loves them devotedly. For their sakes the family life will be maintained as far as possible.
Mrs. Bulkley died Feb. 7, 1902, and was buried from the Christian church Monday at 2 p.m., the pastor, Eld. N.G. Brown, preaching the funeral sermon. Among her neighbors and acquaintances she was highly esteemed fro her good qualities. Pleasant, mild and earnest she made many warm friends who will miss her for a long time to come.
One of the best evidences of the worth of Mrs. Bulkley as a member of our community is the fact that in the midst of death she was in earnest quest of the truth and good. It is sad that, just at that juncture in life, where it is possible to be the most and do the most good, one should be cut off. But how plainly and forcibly the fact speaks to us who remain.
The bereaved family have the most cordial sympathy of the whole community in their deep sorrow.
The following out of town relatives, aside from the immediate relatives mentioned above attended the funeral:
J. Kramer, wife and two sons, Mrs. Seals, Mrs. Josie Crane and Miss Nora Crane, all of Olin; County Recorder John Truax, of Independence; Wm. Traux and wife, of Hazelton, Iowa, and Samuel Heald, of Clinton.
CARD OF THANKS.
We desire to thank our neighbors and friends for the many acts of kindness and sympathy extended us during our recent bereavement and assure all that they were greatly appreciated, and will ever be remembered.
BENJ. BULKLEY.
MRS. ELIZABETH SHERRILL
