LAWRENCE ROBERT CLORE Cedar Rapids
Lawrence Robert Clore, 78, of Cedar Rapids, passed peacefully on Friday, Dec. 3, 2021, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, with his wife and children by his side. The family will be having a celebration of life at a later date. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sharon; children, Tracy (Scott) Best of California and J.R. (Alyssa) Clore of Colorado; grandchildren, Carson and Nicholas Best and Emmy and Austin Clore; and a brother, Paul (Sally) Clore of Tennessee. Larry was born July 25, 1943, in Akron, Ohio, the son of Robert and Marjory (Wright) Clore. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in business administration in 1966. On May 30, 1970, he married Sharon Hanna in Mechanicsville. He moved to Cedar Rapids where he raised his family and had a successful career. Larry spent most of his career in the computer industry, working at both Honeywell and Banks of Iowa Computer Services. He then joined his wife, Sharon, as partners in real estate at Iowa Realty. They worked together for over 20 years helping many families in the area find their homes. Larry had many passions in life. He was a pilot and loved flying with family and friends. He spent many hours in the cockpit and found great happiness doing that. He also loved fishing, including several father and son trips to Canada for Pike and Walleye. He looked forward to his weekly breakfast or lunches with "the guys". Larry enjoyed snow skiing and was a member of Ski Iowa. He and his family spent many Thanksgivings skiing together at Keystone with close friends. Larry enjoyed biking, including many years of the rigorous and famous RAGBRAI races. Larry and Sharon enjoyed spending time with their biking group and were thankful to get to see them recently. They were very social and gregarious at Elmcrest with the many friends they met over 35 years. Faith was important to Larry, he was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Pius Parish. Above all, family was his most important treasure. He was a loving husband to Sharon. They set an example for their children of the importance of marriage and family with their many years of love together. Larry was a wonderful father to Tracy and J.R. providing love, guidance and wisdom throughout his life. He was a proud grandfather to Carson, Nicholas, Emmy and Austin. He enjoyed his many trips to California and Colorado, where he spent time laughing and playing with them. He also really cherished the many family get togethers and holidays with the Hanna family. Larry's family will greatly miss his love, dedication and all the things he taught them. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial will be set up in his name with Brucemore Estate, 2160 Linden Dr. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403; and St. Pius X Catholic Church, 4949 Council St. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402. Donations can be made by sending a check to either organization and noting for The Larry Clore Memorial for Tree Replacement. We are requesting that all donations go towards new trees to help with the devastation from Derecho.
