Darlene Kay Hartkemeyer (1950-2021)

Darlene Kay Hartkemeyer (MISSION MAMA), of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, went home to Jesus on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at age 71, after a long battle with cancer.

Darlene was born to Melvin and Ruth (Selberg) Anderson on March 13, 1950, in Waukon, Iowa. She married Curt Spilde, later divorcing. On March 19, 1988, Darlene was united in marriage to Bill Hartkemeyer, in rural Center Point, Iowa.

Darlene worked at Rockwell Collins for over 30 years until her retirement in 2010. She was passionate about sharing the love of our Lord with others and was an integral part of the church, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. A loyal servant to God, Darlene spent many of her hours dedicated to Eight Days of Hope.

Survivors include her children, Dawn (Matt) Teslow of Waukon, Cheryl Thompson of Cedar Rapids, Rob (Kate) Hartkemeyer of Des Moines, Bruce (Nicole) Hartkemeyer of Cedar Rapids, Deanna (Todd) Van Horbeck of Cedar Rapids, Marianne Hartkemeyer of Germany, Jeannie Daughton of Decorah, and Richard Reckward of Highlandville; 19 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; siblings, Odel (Chris) Anderson of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Richard (Joan) Anderson of Davenport, Iowa, Gordon (Pat) Anderson of Cedar Rapids, and Donna Schuler of Kenai, Alaska; and brother-in-law, Vic Villont.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill Hartkemeyer; son, Don Hartkemeyer; siblings Linda Villont, Carolyn Linzy, Donald Anderson, and Shirley Boldeyn; and son-in-law, Brad Thompson.

A Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 28, 2021, from 3:00-6:00 PM, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 520 Wilson Ave SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52404.

A Celebration of Darlene’s Life will be held on Monday, November 29, 2021, at 2:00 PM, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 8300 C Avenue, Marion, Iowa 52302. If unable to attend in person, a live stream of the service will be available at www.stmarkscr.online.church.
