Joann Leona (Robbecke) Foley, 92, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Friday, July 2, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.

Joann was born on June 28, 1929; the daughter of Ulpian Robbecke and Mae (Tooke) Auwaerter in Green Bay, Wisconsin. She grew up in Keokuk, Iowa where she met her husband, Earl Foley. They were married on June 27, 1953 and enjoyed 64 years of marriage and two children, Melinda & Steve.

Joann retired from Mutual Fire and Automobile Insurance after 20 years of employment where she returned to work in the mid-70s after enjoying time as a stay-at-home mom with her children. In her spare time, Joann enjoyed reading and was a loyal member of the Kenwood Public Library and never turned down an opportunity to visit Lindale Mall. She played bridge and in a Pinochle card club with Earl and lifelong dear friends – which for those of us who were present during the “card club” nights, wondered exactly how many hands were actually played. She was meticulous about a clean house both inside and outside which meant there were always “chores to do” and somehow our poor dog, Skippy was always at fault for his dog hair. Those who knew Joann will acknowledge how much she loved coffee and chocolate – she was never without either for very long. Joann enjoyed traveling and ensured that every summer there was a family vacation planned – she visited every tourist site in the Midwest that could be reached by car.

She enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up and enjoyed many dance recitals & sporting events, trick or treat visits and making them ham & mashed potatoes & gravy for holiday meals.

She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Earl, her brother-in-law, Donald Glover.

Left to cherish her memories are her children, daughter Melinda Foley (Todd Tipton) of Omaha, Nebraska, son Steve & Lisa (Melsa) Foley of Swisher, Iowa, grandchildren Taylor (Tyler) Cropley of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Jackson Foley of Swisher, Iowa. Two sisters-in-law, Shirley (Foley) Glover of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Roberta (Foley) and Gene Howes of Hamilton, IL, 3 nieces and 1 nephew.

Wednesday, July 7, 2021 from 4:00- 7:00 PM
Visitation Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories Stateroom.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Views of Cedar Rapids | MeadowView Memory Care or Mercy Hospice in Joann’s honor.
