Lou was born on Sept. 7, 1970, in Topeka, Kan., the son of Bennett Lee Ball and Mary Elizabeth (Sachs) Grundmeier. In 1988, he graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High. Lou attended the School of Barbering and Hairstyling in 1994. He also achieved an Associate of Applied Science in Human Services from Kirkwood Community College. Lou was united in marriage to Cynthia Jean Snow on Aug. 30, 1997, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Lou enjoyed playing video games, playing cards, bargain hunting, listening to music and traveling. But Lou's true passion was all the great times spent with his friends and family. He was a member of Eastern Star Malta Chapter 415, Crescent Lodge 25 and Trinity-St. James United Methodist Church. He had a bigger than life personality. Meeting him was unforgettable. His face radiated friendly charm and his captivating laugh and smile when he greeted you. Lou was one of those people who could strike up a conversation with anyone, familiar or a stranger. He was a man who valued his family and friendships.

He is survived by his loving wife, Cindy, and their two children, Julia Ball and Logan (Rachel) Ball, all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his mother, Mary Grundmeier of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; siblings, Gregory (Shawna) Rogers of Troy, Mo.; Blake (Dee) Grundmeier of Fort Dodge, Iowa; Benjamin Grundmeier III of Logan, Iowa; Joyce Kipp of Colorado; Brian Grundmeier of Missouri; and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.

Lou was preceded in death by a son, Curtis Lee Benjamin Ball; his father, Bennett Lee Ball and two siblings, David Dwight Ball and April Dawn Ball; his stepfather, Benjamin Walter Grundmeier Jr.; and grandparents.

A special thank-you to the UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's Organ Donation Team, Pastor Jaymee Glenn-Burns, and to all that have been a part of Lou's life, he loved you all.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks those memorial donations in Lou's name to the Linn Community Food Bank: 310 Fifth St. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52401; or you can bring non-perishable food items to the visitation or the funeral service.
