JOHN THELEN

Cedar Rapids

John Thelen, 53, of Cedar Rapids passed away Aug. 31, 2021, at St. Luke's Hospital. A visitation will be held starting at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, with a funeral service to follow at 3 p.m. at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. A livestream of

the service may be accessed on the funeral home website under the obituary for John Thelen under the video tab starting at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4.

John Robert Thelen was born Sept. 2, 1967, in Milwaukee, Wis., the son of Robert and Bernadette (Barnhart) Thelen. He graduated from Washington High School, Class of 1985.

John served in the U.S. Army from 1985 to 1991 and was deployed during Desert Storm.

For most of John's career, he worked in sales and marketing. He enjoyed football and was a Green Bay Packers fan. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.

John is survived by his wife, Chris; his children, Kayla, Kenny, Jackson and Ella; his mother; and a brother, David (Theresa) Thelen.

He was preceded in death by his father.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of PCI and the University of Iowa on their exceptional care and compassion.
