John H. Freeman, 81, died suddenly Thursday at 11:45 p.m. at his home, 140 Tenth street, Marion.
Born Sept. 18, 1872, at Portage, Mich., he was married to Lucy Cartier Oct. 31, 1911, at Champion, Mich. They resided in Marion for 42 years.
Mr. Freeman served in the Spanish-American war. A former sexton of Oak Shade cemetery, he was in charge of the city's parks for a number of years. For the last eight years he was employed by Collins Radio Company.
He was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic church. Surviving in addition to his wife, are two sons, and a daughter by a former marriage: Ernest Freeman of Tecumseh, Ont.; Earl Freeman of Juliet, Ga., and Mrs. Ina Lamb of Moline, Ill; a son, John M. Freeman of Evanston, Ill; three daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Noah of Marion, Mrs. Helen Miles of Aiken, S.C., and Mrs. Phyllis Lacock of Clinton; 12 grandchildren, and a brother, Frank Freeman of Kalamazoo.
Services will be conducted at St. Joseph's church at a time to be announced later. Friends may call at the Murdoch chapel after 1 p.m. Saturday and until 2 p.m. Sunday and after that time at the family home.
