John Wayne Bohon II, 47, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2021, at home after fighting through multiple brain and spinal cord disorders and following complications. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Monday, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church by the Rev. Gary Mayer. A vigil service will be held at

2 p.m. Sunday at Teahen Funeral Home, those not attending the vigil service may visit with the family from 2:30 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

John is survived by his wife of 21 years, Lindsay; and sons, Blake and Dylan, all of Cedar Rapids; mother, Sherry Marsh and stepfather Bob Scobee of Warsaw, Mo.; sister, Stephanie Bohon of Denver, Colo.; mother-in-law, Debbie Freeman of De Soto, Kan.; sister-in-law, Erin Freeman of Kansas City, Mo,; brother-in-law, John (Kristina) Freeman of Spring Hill, Kan.; niece and nephew, Alexis and John; dogs, Sadie Rose and Buddy; and many close extended family and friends.

John was preceded in death by his father, John Bohon; brothers, Brian and Ronald Scott Van Zant; grandparents, Crystal and Harold Hager; and father-in-law, John Freeman.

John was born June 19, 1974, in North Kansas City, Mo., the son of John and Sherry Hager Bohon. John graduated from Kearney High School, Kearney, Mo., in 1992. He began working for Norfolk Southern Railroad in 1995 and was promoted to locomotive engineer in 1998. On Sept. 11, 1999, John married Lindsay Freeman in Kansas City, Mo.

John was disabled from the railroad due to his health issues in 2009. John was always thankful for the following years of dedicated time to his two sons and family.

John lived for his family and was never short of quick wit. Prior to his major disabilities, he could be found on the golf course or outside playing with his sons. John was never shy to share his faith, honest thoughts and feelings, and proved through his humor and charm that love and laughter is the best medicine. He is remembered for his tremendous mental and physical strength and unwavering love. John will truly be missed by all who were blessed to know him.
