Constance Armstrong (1946-2021)

Constance “Connie” Susan Whitmore Armstrong, 74, of Cedar Rapids, passed away June 24, 2021, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. A visitation will be held at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories Stateroom on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. A funeral mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at 10:30 AM.

She is survived by her loving husband Steven; children Carynn (Thomas) Smith of Robins, and Jennifer (Brian) Uelze of Edwards, Colorado; grandchildren Ashley (Alex) Kanakis, Hunter Meier, Jacob Smith, Gavin Smith, Brandon Smith; siblings Cindy Garvey of Cedar Rapids, and Kip (Jamie) Kula of Newport Beach, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her stepdaughter Jennifer Armstrong.

Connie was born to Gerald and Helen (Miller) Kula on July 19, 1946 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After she graduated from Regis High School, she attended Creighton University where she received her bachelor’s in nursing. Connie spent her time raising her two daughters and later pursued a career in pharmaceutical sales.

On August 13, 1994, Connie married Steven Armstrong in Marion, Iowa. She and Steve built a home together in Cedar Rapids and founded Armstrong Transportation Inc. where she held the title of Vice President.

Connie enjoyed flower gardening, playing cards, pickleball, shopping, interior design, and escaping the cold Iowa winters in Mesa, Arizona. She was active in politics and a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.

Most of all, she cherished her family and loved spending time together in Marco Island, Florida.

She will be forever remembered as a loving, devoted, and caring wife, mother, sister, friend, and grandmother, affectionately known as “Grandma Con”.
