IDONA "SUE" PATTON Cedar Rapids
Idona "Sue" Patton, 75, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on May 4, 2021, at Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha, surrounded by her children, after a 27-year battle with breast cancer. Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday May 10, at St Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. A visitation will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday May 9, at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home Stateroom. Following the continued proclamations issued by the Governor, physical distancing must be practiced, which may require a limited number of people allowed into a visitation at one time. The use of facial coverings is strongly encouraged. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 11. Idona Sue Patton was born Sept. 28, 1945, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Cornellia (Lang) and Erwin Siewertsen. Sue graduated from Charles City High School in 1963. Sue was united in marriage to John "Jack" Patton on Nov. 7, 1964, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City, Iowa. They were married for 55 years until Jack passed on May 25, 2020. During their marriage, they lived in Atlantic, Charles City, and settled in Cedar Rapids in 1978. Sue was an administrative/legal assistant and retired from the United States Attorney's Office in Cedar Rapids in January 2008. She was a volunteer for schools, churches, Make-A-Wish for 15 years, and finished her volunteer career with over 500 hours at Especially for You. Sue enjoyed cooking, sewing and crafts, especially when shared with her children and grandchildren. Her greatest joy was her family. Those left to honor Sue's memory include her children, Marcy (John) Oates of Marion, Jennifer (Troy) Jones of Cedar Rapids, Annette (Matthew) Smith of Epworth and Matthew (Tabitha McVay) Patton of Hiawatha; 16 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren with one arriving in September, and many honorary grandchildren; two sisters, Olene (Al) Schroeder of Greene and Martha Torres of Waseca; brother, Maynard Siewertsen of Rockford; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Patton, her parents and four sisters. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to be shared with Sue's favorite charities.
