Gloria Jean Strauss (1947-2021)

Gloria Jean (Fox) Strauss, 73 of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Sunday, April 25, 2021 after a long illness. Funeral Mass: 2:30 p.m. Friday at St. Jude Catholic Church by Rev. Mark Murphy. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home. Per Covid guidelines, attendees are asked to wear masks and practice social distancing.

Gloria is survived by her husband of 55 years, Gary A. Strauss; three children, Sheri (Michael) Moreland of Ottumwa, Brian (Jody) Strauss of Marion and Brad (Tara) Strauss of Chandler, Arizona; seven grandchildren, Nick Moreland, Jacob Strauss, Samuel Moreland, Josh Strauss, Emily Strauss, Zach Strauss, and Hannah Strauss; brother, Glen (Sue) Fox; in laws, Steve (Pam) Strauss and Jean Fox; and many nieces and nephews.

Gloria was proceeded in death by her parents, George and Gladys Fox; brother, Gary Michael Fox; and in-laws Robert and Maxine Strauss.

Gloria was born in Cedar Rapids on October 15, 1947. She lived her whole life in Cedar Rapids and graduated from LaSalle High School in 1965. Gloria and Gary were married on July 5, 1965 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. In her younger years, she worked at Ced-Rel Supper Club. After having 3 children Gloria became a stay at home mom, but found time to volunteer for over 27 years at Aid to Women/Bridgehaven. She also volunteered at St. Jude Catholic Church, helping in many different ways including the St. Jude Sweet Corn Festival, and at Mercy Medical Center. Gloria was a member of St Jude Catholic Church since 1966 and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW 788. She was very proud of her Catholic Faith and you could find her at Mass every Sunday, at most weekday masses, at Prayer/Dinner Club, and the St. Jude Prayer group.

Gloria enjoyed most of all spending time with her family which she loved very much! She was extremely proud of her three children and seven grandchildren. Gloria enjoyed watching them participate in sports and their other activities, and grow to be such good people, watching them follow their passions. She enjoyed baking and was known for her pie making skills which she learned from her grandmother. Gloria also enjoyed spending time with her friends, walking every day, swimming in her pool, going out to eat, going on day trips/vacations, and their monthly visits to the New Melleray Abbey in Peosta.

Gloria and Gary enjoyed traveling and had gone on many family vacations, cruises, bus trips, trips to Europe, and road trips. The last few years they enjoyed driving to Arizona to visit Brad, Tara, Zach and Hannah. Gloria will be missed by her friends and family.
