Cedar Rapids Evening Gazette Friday July 29, 1921
The death of Paul Albert Stivers, the only son of Mrs. Hazel Park Stivers, occurred Thursday at 2:30 a.m., in Mercy hospital. After a sudden attack of what appeared to be acute appendicitis, the lad was removed to the hospital, Wednesday. On operating, the attending surgeon found the trouble to be thrombosis, with the divine hand already manifesting its presence.
Paul Stivers was born in Cedar Rapids, July 16, 1911, and had just passed his tenth birthday. A few years ago he moved with his folk to Des Moines. Since that time the death of the father occurred; and the death of the other child in the home, shortly prior to that. About a year ago, the lad with his mother came back to Cedar Rapids. For the last year they have been faithful members of St. Paul Methodist Episcopal church in this city. Paul was an active member of the Royal Workers class of boys, taught by Mr. W.G. Probst.
He was always to be found in the thick of the sports, always energetic, eager to help, earnest and desirous of being of assistance in every boy project. His vivaciousness, and desire to be up and doing, and his willingness to make friends and cooperate with them, were the very likable characteristics of this young life. The boys of his class will miss his ardent spirit.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of St. Paul's church. Dr. A.M. Jayne, will officiate. Burial will be made in Oak Hill cemetery.
