Obituary of Mrs. H.M. Horton
Emeline F. Rector was born in Springfield, Ohio, April 1, 1835[sic], and died in Marion, July 23, 1916, at the age of 81 years, 3 months and ?? days. She was the only daughter of Susan and Elias Rector, and her early childhood removed with the parents to Dayton, O., where she grew to young womanhood.
In 1857 she was married to Henry M. Horton at Dayton, O. Two or three years later they decided to seek a location in the west, after visiting several places, they finally made their home, in Marion, arriving here on Thanksgiving day, 1864.
To this union were born three children, one dying in infancy. She is survived by two sons, Wm. R. and Albert H., both of Marion; also two grandchildren. She united with the Presbyterian church on profession of faith with her husband February 7, 1864. She was a most faithful and earnest, consistent member of the church. In later years because of infirmities she had not been able to attend services of this church, yet retained her keen interest in all of the work. Her pastor, Dr. C.F. Ensign conducted the services at the home on Eighth avenue Tuesday afternoon, and burial was in the family lot in Oak Shade cemetery.
