William H. Crew, age 57, died Friday afternoon at his home seven miles northeast of Marion. He had been ill for two years. The second son of Jesse B. and Rebecca Winnery Crew, he was born Sept. 18, 1871, near Belle Plaine. When he was a small child he moved with his parents to Linn county, where the family resided until the father's health failed and they moved to Kansas in 1881. They moved back to their farm in Linn county in 1893. Mr. Crew was married on Nov. 22, 1904. Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Crew, one of whom, Arthur Garrett, died in infancy. When he was a boy Mr. Crew united with the Methodist Episcopal church, of which he was a faithful member. He is survived by his widow and three daughters, Julia, 18, Frances, 15, and Mary Alice, 13, and two brothers, Walter Crew of Memphis and J. Everett Crew of Cedar Rapids.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the family home, seven miles northeast of Marion. The Rev. L.C. Lemon of Mount Vernon will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Shade cemetery.
