W.O. Barkwill, 83, 2706 Tenth avenue, died at 7 a.m. today, following an illness of one week. He had been in failing health for some time. Born in Washington county, Ohio, August 28, 1842, he was married to Alice Lacey Nov. 14, 1872. They came west in 1879, settling in Duel county, South Dakota, where they lived for thirty years, then moving to Minnesota and later to norther Iowa. In 1910 they moved to Marion. Mrs. Barkwill died Nov. 19, 1919, and Mr. Barkwill had made his home with his son, W.W. Barkwill, for seven years.
Mr. and Mrs. Barkwill were parents of thirteen children: Stella Strickland of Hollywood, Fla,; Walter M. of Melvin; Frank, who is dead; Agnes Miller of Clear Lake, S.D; Ben of Lubbock, Texas; Olive, who is dead; Weston, Fred, Thomas, Charles and High of Marion, Amos, who is dead, and Myron of Hollywood, Fla. Mr. Barkwill was a carpenter and he followed his trade until about eight years ago. He was a member of the Baptist church, Osceola lodge, No. 18, I.O.O.F., and the Carpenter's Union of Cedar Rapids. He is survived by his children, thirty grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and one brother, Lawrence E. Barkwill, of Harvey, Ill.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Yocom chapel. The Rev. William E. Bridwell, pastor of the Baptist church, will officiate. Burial will be at Clear Lak, S.D.
