Edwin Rask, 84, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, March 13, 2021, at Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 17, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. All guests are respectfully requested to wear a mask and practice social distancing. A livestream of the funeral service may be accessed on the funeral home website tribute page for Edwin, under "photos and videos or media," starting at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 17. Edwin was born Aug. 14, 1936, in Sioux City, Iow,a to Carl and Alice (Salsbury) Rask. He was united in marriage to Caroline Mae Stone on Jan. 20, 1962, in Manchester, Iowa. Edwin worked on the downtown Cedar Rapids bridges while at Century Engineering and then he became a painter for the Highway Equipment Co. for over 30 years, retiring in 2001. Edwin loved watching westerns, especially John Wayne. He enjoyed collecting horse statues and memorabilia. Edwin also enjoyed his trips to Tama. He especially loved spending time with his family. Edwin is survived by his children, Caroline (Melvin) Vollbrecht of Cedar Rapids, Geraldine (Delbert) Anders of Anamosa, Eddie Rask of Cedar Rapids, Angela (Mike) Appleby of Olin and Timothy Rask of Marion; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; siblings, Barbara Geise of Marion and Darrel Rask of Portland, Ore.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Alice Rask; wife, Caroline, in 2009; and son, Edwin Rask, Jr.; as well as 10 siblings.
