Debbie Dittmar, beloved mother, Granny, Gram-Gram, sister and friend, died peacefully at her home on Feb. 12, 2021, after a long battle with renal failure.
Deborah "Debbie" Lynne (Brandon) Dittmar was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Clarence and Faye (Fox) Brandon. She married her childhood sweetheart, Richard John Dittmar, on May 7, 1971.
She worked at Franklin School cafeteria, Sam's Pizza, St. Patrick's Daycare, and Asbury Daycare. She loved being around children. Children would flock to her to have a moment of her attention when she would visit her DIL's daycare.
Debbie was the kind of person who was attentive to each person in her life. She made people feel loved, respected and valued. Family was the most important thing in her life. She was blessed with a son, two grandsons and two great-granddaughters. She overindulged on gifts for all of her "babies" all the time. She doted on her two great-granddaughters and cherished every moment she spent with them playing dolls, coloring, singing, and always smiling. Her family could do no wrong in her eyes and she was so very proud of each one of them.
Debbie enjoyed watching Iowa Hawkeyes and Dallas Cowboy football with her family. She could cheer louder than anyone. She loved going to the casinos with her sisters and having family nights with all of her siblings. She enjoyed going to Bingo and playing games on her tablet when she couldn't get out and about. She loved going on rides to see nature and animals and she enjoyed fishing.
Debbie was a strong, independent and stubborn woman. Those traits were especially important when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011. She fought that battle and won. She continued her plight with her kidneys and did in-home dialysis for 10 years.
Debbie was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Faye; niece, Renae Hunt; and her husband of 45 years, Richard Dittmar, back in September of 2016.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, David (Renee) Dittmar of Cedar Rapids; grandsons, Zach (Hallie) Dittmar of Cedar Rapids and Jacob Dittmar of Cedar Rapids; great-granddaughters, Gemma and Gracelyn; siblings, Tim (Theresa) Brandon of Cedar Rapids, Cathy (Paul) Groth of Cedar Rapids, Vicki (Gale) Seevell of Alburnett, Terry (Sue) Brandon of Denver and Kristi (Max Newman) McDowell of Toddville; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Debbie will truly be missed.
It was Debbie's wishes to be cremated and she did not want a funeral service.
In lieu of flowers or monetary contributions, reach out to the people you hold dear to your heart and create lasting memories together. When our time on earth is done it will be those memories to cherish forever.
