John E. Mathes Dies; Services Thursday
John E. Mathes, 73, lifelong resident of Linn county, died Tuesday in a Cedar Rapids hospital after a short illness. Born in Linn county, Sept. 5, 1870, he was married in Marion Oct. 18, 1893, to Anna Frances Coenen, who died Aug. 29, 1939. He had been living in Lisbon with his daughter, Mrs. Raymond Stearns, the last few years. He was a member of the Marion Presbyterian church.
In addition to his daughter he is survived by four grandchildren and two brothers, Louis E. Mathes, Cedar Rapids and Wesley Mathes, Central City. Services will be held Thursday at 2 in the Yocom chapel. The Rev. C.V.R. DeJong will officiate and burial will be in Oak Shade cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel.
