Rick Thompson, 67, of Marion, passed away Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Services are private.
As mandated by proclamation, social distancing must be practiced, which requires a limited number of people to be allowed into the visitation at one time. The use of face masks or shields is required.
"Rick" Ricky Lee Thompson was born on Nov. 11, 1953, son of William and Audrey Thompson. Rick graduated from Linn-Mar High School in 1972 after high school attending Waldorf College, Iowa State, and the University of Wisconsin at Platteville. Rick worked in the family business, Linn-Mar Construction and then in 1997 moved to Chicago, where he was employed by General Growth Properties as an in-house project manager for major shopping mall projects across the country, including Coral Ridge and Jordan Creek here in Iowa. He spent his free time with his beloved dogs Sherman, and Calvin and close friends, supporting the arts, theatre, and the Chicago Architectural Society as well as spending countless hours at the lake less than a block from his home. Retuning to his home in Marion at retirement, he loved spending time with his dog, family, and friends, enjoying gardening, multiple projects in his well-equipped shop, theater and arts related events.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Melissa Antisdel; grandparents, Roy and Myrtle Altenburg, Lee and Mae Thompson; and beloved dogs Sebastian and Sherman.
Rick's memories will be remembered and cherished by his parents, Bill and Audrey Thompson; brother, Zach (Carol) Thompson; sister, Samantha Brown; niece, Ashley Beachel; her sons, Ryker and Xaiden Sotomayor; nieces, Cheyenne Brown and Chelsea Coons; his beloved dog, Calvin; and longtime friends, DiMar Barker, Scott Habel, Craig Chapman and Rob Buchenau.
In lieu of flowers, the family has respectfully requested that any memorial contribution be made to the charity of Midwest Dachshund Rescue, mwdr.org/donate.
