Pamela Kay Van Note, 68, of Palo, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 29, 2020.

Pam was born on June 30, 1952 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Edwin and Margaret Phillips. She graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1970. After high school, she worked at a grocery store which provided her with great stories to tell of the things she had seen. Pam moved to Cedar Rapids in 1986 and started in the field of market research spending 22 years at Information Resources Incorporated, prior to joining Jefferson Davis Associates where she worked for 9 years prior to retiring in 2014. While in Cedar Rapids, on top of juggling a full-time job and raising her two sons, she earned an Associate of Arts degree from Kirkwood Community College where she delivered the valedictorian speech. She then continued her education at Hamilton College, earning a Bachelor of Science in Management, again earning the honor of valedictorian.

Pam married Maurice Van Note on February 19, 2000 at Hillside Wesleyan Church where she was a member. Pam was a person of strong faith in the most trying times. She was an amazing wife and mother, but her greatest joy was her role of “Mimi” to her grandchildren. Pam was a planner and never afraid to speak her mind. She enjoyed reading and watching movies and carrying on full conversations with her dog and constant companion, Karmin. What she should be remembered for most is that she gave all of herself to others and never asked anything in return.

In addition to her husband, Pam will be dearly missed by her two sons, Christopher King and Mark Willis; daughter-in-law, Jessica King; and the four little lights of her life (her grandchildren): Hailey, Brooke, Tesla and Lincoln; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her immediate family, Pam is also survived by Maurice’s children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Patti Mansfield; and her brother, Mike Phillips.

Funeral services will be held at Hillside Wesleyan Church (2600 1st Ave NW) on Tuesday, January 5th, at 11 a.m. For those unable to attend in person, the service will also be streamed live. The link for the live stream will be shared over Facebook.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the MSA Coalition at www.multiplesystematrophy.org
