Carmalita "Sharon"
Bassett, 79, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Marion, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020, at Northbrook Manor Care Center in Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service
in Marion. All guests are respectfully requested to
wear a face mask and
practice social distancing. Private Inurnment will take place at Lafayette Cemetery in rural Alburnett.
Sharon was born March 20, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Leo and Lily (Hackert) McGowan. She graduated from Marion High School. On Sept. 5, 1959, in Marion, Sharon was united in marriage to Thomas Bassett. She was a secretary for several years at Collins Radio before becoming a full-time homemaker and raising their children. Sharon volunteered at Mercy Medical Center and later in life sold Avon products. She loved nature, traveling with Tom but, most of all, Sharon loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 61 years, Tom Bassett of Cedar Rapids; her daughter, Rebecca (Thomas) Bark; son, Curtis (Valerie) Bassett; both of Palo, Iowa; six grandchildren, Luke (April), Joshua (Franses), Zachary (Deanna), Marshall (Katie), Dustin (Crystal) and Courtney (Nick); eight great-grandchildren, Logan, Ashlyn, Austin, Maddison, Ayden, Gibson, Cooper and Lincoln; one sister, Jeanne Ciha of Cedar Rapids; brother-in-law, Roy Mrstik of Cedar Rapids; and sister-in-law, Janice McGowan of New Jersey.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Dolores Mrstik, Betty Ellis and Dorothy Mrstik; and brother, Kenneth McGowan.
Memorials in Sharon's memory may be directed to her family to be designated at a later time or the Iowa Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
The family would like to thank the staff at Northbrook Manor Care Center for their compassionate care.
