On Friday, Dec. 25, 2020, Linda Marie Reichert, loving mother of two, passed away
at the age of 71. Linda was born Feb. 18, 1949, in Jefferson, Iowa, to Leighton and Verna Steinhoff Murray. She graduated from Regis High School in Cedar Rapids in 1967. Linda earned her
B.A. in elementary education from Northeast Missouri State (now Truman College) in Kirksville, Mo., and was a second-grade teacher in Anamosa before staying home to raise her children.
Linda was known for her love of animals and became a licensed equine massage therapist. She ran her own small animal care business, where she became a trusted caregiver for many dogs and cats in the Cedar Rapids area. In recent years, Linda was able to fulfill her lifelong dream of traveling to an elephant sanctuary in South Africa. Linda was also known for her sense of humor and quick wit as well as being a favorite grandmotherly neighbor on Richmond Road.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Leighton Emery and Verna May Murray; as well as an aunt; her two uncles; and her deeply beloved schnauzers, Kraut and Willie.
She is survived by her former husband and loving caretaker, Luke Reichert of Cedar Rapids; son, Brian Reichert of Ames, Iowa; daughter, Erin Reichert of Waukee, Iowa; her grandchildren, Nicole, Leighton and Emery; her siblings, Charles Murray (Hermina) of Kissimmee, Fla., and Patricia Crosswhite of Santa Clarita, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where a private memorial service will follow at 5 p.m. Please note, as mandated by proclamation, that social distancing must be practiced, which requires a limited number of people to be allowed into the visitation at one time. The use of face masks or shields is required. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
