BETTENDORF-Larry Shy, 72 of Bettendorf, IA passed away Monday Dec. 21, 2020.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, Larry's family has chosen to have a private services with burial Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Online condolences can be shared at www.rungemortuary.com.
Larry was born on June 15, 1948 in Davenport, IA to Raymond and Mary Shy, and little brother to his doting sister Phyllis (now of Davenport). He attended Oak Park Adventist Academy in Nevada, IA for high school. His first job was a painter with his dad. Following that, he was employed for over 28 years with the Davenport Public Schools until retirement in 2007. During that time he met Eva Rogers, his wife of 36 years until death parted them.
Larry was described as gentle, kind, lover of a good joke and making others laugh. He was upbeat, positive, someone you could count on for help, and always happy to see you. He loved traveling, enjoyed people watching and the hustle and bustle at the mall, he loved anything chocolate, food in general, watching Everybody Loves Raymond with his wife and he loved Jesus. When he was still able, he served his church, the Davenport Seventh Day Adventist church, as a Deacon and assisted with the upkeep of the church and grounds his entire. When able, he also spent much of his free time at church functions with his immediate and church family. His pride and joy was his only daughter Tricia Shy, his son in law Chino Burse and most of all his granddaughters Jada, Cammi, Caydence and Calista (Callie) all of Bettendorf, IA.
He will be cherished in memory by his sister, wife, daughter, son in law, granddaughters, friends made during his lifetime and church family members.
