Delores E. Block, 91, of Summit Pointe Senior Living in Marion, formerly of Cedar Rapids and Spirit Lake, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2020, at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids from complications of COVID-19. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids with Pastor Michael Erickson officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids is assisting the family with the arrangements.
As mandated by proclamation, social distancing must be practiced. The use of face masks or shields is required.
Delores was born March 29, 1929, in Hampton, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Esther (Helvig) Muessigmann. She graduated from Hampton High School. She was united in marriage to Del Eldon Block on June 27, 1948, at Grant Center Church. She was a longtime member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, where she was the church secretary for 20 years. She also was an active member of the church choir and Bible studies. She volunteered in many other charitable organizations in the community. Del and Dee enjoyed many friendships, travel, golf, walking and time spent wintering in Florida.
Dee was a quiet, humble servant and mentor as she lived out her Christian faith every day, sharing her gift of cooking, an inviting home and friendship with everyone who knew her. Her grandchildren remember her for her wonderful meals and a warm and loving home to visit. Her laughter, her grace and her peacefulness made them feel welcome, loved and special. Family was the highlight of her life.
Survivors include her husband of 72 years, Del of Marion; two daughters, Debbie (Tom) Hedges of Eagan, Minn., and Delinda Byers of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildrenm Brandon, Abby, Aaron, Callie and Megan; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; sonm Timothy Block; two brothers, Lester and Clarence Muessigmann; and one sister, Elsie Hunt.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family which will be distributed amongst her favorite charities.
