Funeral service for John A. Garrett, 78, was held Wednesday afternoon, March 22, at the C. B. Johnston funeral home, Mount Vernon, with Rev. L. L. McKibben in charge. Music was furnished by Mrs. George Barner, Mrs. Lenora Huffman and Guy Martin.

Pallbearers were Harl Yeisley, Will Ferguson, Clifford Larson, Andrew Bobst, Glen Peet and Herbert Hogle. Burial was in the Mount Vernon cemetery.

John A. Garrett was born Sept. 23, 1869, at Wymore, Neb., and died at his home in Mount Vernon, Monday, March 20, 1944. On July 29,1891 he was married to Maria Estella Woodcox in Marion. To this union was born two children, Mrs. Velma I. Chapin, Plymouth, and Merrill Garett, Mount Vernon.

For a number of years they lived on a farm near Martelle, and 20 years ago moved to a farm near Mason City. On Jan. 1, they retired and moved to Mount Vernon, because of the ill health of Mr. Garrett.

He was a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge of Mount Vernon and a former member of the Knights of Pythias in Martelle.

Besides his wife and two children, a brother, Frank, Denver, Colo, two grandchildren, Kenneth Chapin and Mrs. Doris Grundel, and four great grandchildren survive.
