Nellie "Babe" Neola Wood, 93, of Monticello, Iowa, formerly of Central City, Iowa, passed away Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020, at Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Monticello. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private family graveside service will take place at Mount Clark Cemetery in Central City, with Pastor Brody Tubaugh officiating. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Central City is assisting the family.
Babe was born on Nov. 9, 1927, in Petersburg, Iowa, one of 17 children to Joseph and Susan (Bowers) Taylor. On Sept. 17, 1944, she was united in marriage to Arthur LeRoy Wood in Kirksville, Mo. Babe and Arthur ran their own sanitation service in Central City and neighboring communities for many years, until retiring in 1974. She enjoyed playing cards, especially Rummy. Babe was a dedicated bingo player for 18 years, never missing a night at the bingo hall. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. Babe will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Babe is survived and lovingly remembered by three children, Dean (Kathy) Wood of Central City, Nancy Bahr of Alburnett and Rick (Julie) Wood of Central City; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-
great-grandson; one sister, Ruth Wiley of Tipton, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Susan Taylor; husband, Arthur Wood; daughter, Delva Sackett; seven brothers; eight sisters; and one great-grandson, Dillan Sackett.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all of the nurses and staff at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for all the love, care and support they gave to Babe during her stay at the center.
