Carrie Cowan, 79, a former resident of Alburnett, died Friday night at her home in Glendale, Calif.
Services were held in the Yocom chapel at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. James P. Gable officiating. Burial was in Oak Shade cemetery.
Born Sept. 19, 1868 at Bowens Prairie in Jones county, she was the daughter of Shelton and Chloe Hickman. She married THomas Cowan at Alburnett in 1904. Following their marriage they lived at Spirit Lake until his death in 1922. She has lived in California for many years.
She was graduated from Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls and taught school prior to her marriage. She was a member of the Glendale Methodist church.
Surviving is one daughter, Mrs. Glenn Scott, and a sister, Mrs. Laura Gillmore of Marion.
