July 18, 1940 - The Anamosa Journal

Mrs. Robert H. Kleineck, 42, living two miles east of Springville on highway 151, ended her own life early Wednesday morning. Dr. B. L. Knight, Linn county coroner, decided that she was the victim of self-administered poison, and said there would be no inquest.

Dr. Ben L. Knight, Linn county coroner, and Jim Smith Linn county sheriff, found that Mrs. Kleineck had bought some poison in an Anamosa pharmacy, Tuesday evening, when she was in town with her husband and son.

Mr. Kleineck said he heard his wife moving around the kitchen downstairs Wednesday at about 5:30 a.m. A few minutes later he was attracted by her moaning, and immediately administered antidotes. She died shortly after, however, at about 5:45 a.m.

Mrs. Kleineck was well known around Anamosa and Jones county, having been formerly Miss Bessie Straka, Oxford Junction. She had been known to have been in ill health for several months.

She is survived by Mr. Kleineck, a son, Leonard, 19, and a daughter, Velma, 16. The body was taken to Loder funeral home in Anamosa. Funeral will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Oxford Junction Methodist church. Rev. B. T. Schwab, Anamosa, will be in charge. Burial will be in Mayflower cemetery.

Casket bearers will be E. G. Lasack, George Lasack, Fred Lasack, Otto Lasack, Vince Lasack and Antone Peckosh.
