Prominent Railroad Man Dead.
James Morton, general passenger agent of the B., C. R. & N. RR., died at his home in Cedar Rapids, last Saturday morning in the early part of this year, he had a severe attack of grip from which he did not recover. It was followed by softening of the brain, and in July he went to Scotland. While there, in August, he was stricken by paralysis, and his death resulted from that cause. Mr. Morton was a native of New York, but has lived in Iowa more than thirty years. He entered railroad work in Des Moines, but later moved to Cedar Rapids and rose successively from joint ticket agent of the C. & N. W. and B , C. R. & N. roads to joint passenger agent and then to the general passenger agency of the B., C. R. & N. He was a veteran of the civil war and a prominent member of the Masonic order, having held the highest office that could be held In Iowa.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born in 1842 and is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery.
