Velda Goehring, 68, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Friday, August 28, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital after fighting a long illness. Services: 3 p.m. Tuesday September 1, 2020, at Teahen Funeral Home by Pastor Gary Brouwers. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday after 1 p.m. Velda will be buried on September 3, 2020 in Sioux Falls, SD at the Hills of Rest Memorial Park. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family. All in attendance are required to wear a mask and respect social distancing guidelines.
Velda is survived by her siblings, Diana Norton of Sioux Falls, SD, Betty Goehring, and Sharon (George) Dorman both of Cedar Rapids, Mavis (Roger) Trapp of Harper Woods, MI, Larry (Pam) Goehring of New Richland, MN, Robert (Cherie) Goehring of Baltic, SD, and Deborah (Harold) Erixon of Liberty Hill, TX; nieces and nephews Steven (Tonya) Trapp, Kathleen (Rick) Fistler, Michelle Trapp, Katie Goehring, Peter (Katrina) Goehring, Michael (Adena) Dorman, Daniel (Jessie) Dorman, Andrew (Lauren) Dorman, Brady (Emily) Dorman, Harold (Amanda) Erixon, and Melissa Erixon; 10 great nephews, 10 great nieces plus one on the way, and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Erwin and Leona Goehring, brother-in-law Robert Norton, and a nephew Spencer Gibbs.
Velda was born September 14, 1951 in Sioux Falls, SD the daughter of Erwin and Leona (Laib) Goehring. She attended Lincoln Grade School and Axtell Junior High prior to graduating from Washington High School in 1969. She attended Denver Women’s College and continued living in the Denver area until 2012 when she moved to Cedar Rapids, IA. While in Denver, Velda worked for insurance and mortgage companies until 2010.
Velda always said her purpose in life was to make others laugh and smile. She loved children and wanted to be loved by them. In her younger years Velda loved square dancing; she only stopped because she ran out of partners that could keep up with her. You could always find her socializing with friends while scrap booking, playing games, and making cards. She also enjoyed traveling with friends and family, doing puzzles and word finds.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be given to Peace Christian Reformed Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
