Leonore Petrick, 96, of Hiawatha, Iowa, formerly of Prairieburg, Iowa, passed away Friday,
August 7, 2020, at the Hiawatha Care Center in Hiawatha, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. with a Parish Vigil Service at 7 p.m. on Monday, August 10, 2020, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. Please be respectful of social distancing guidelines and wear a facemask. Private services for family only will be conducted by Reverend Nick March. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Prairieburg.

Leonore is survived by her ten children, Linda Peet of Cedar Rapids, Elaine Fayhee of Paris, Illinois, Nancy Shields of Cedar Rapids, Susan Recker of Gillette, Wyoming, Jane (Leland) Loux of Sac City, William (Toni) Petrick of Kiln, Mississippi, Richard Petrick of Janesville, Kenneth (Cinda) Petrick of Anamosa, Ronald (Kathy) Petrick of Martelle, and Carol Hewitt of Cedar Rapids; 22 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Anna Mae Petrick.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph Petrick; infant grandson, Benjamin Petrick; and four sons-in-law, Douglas Peet, Dennis Fayhee, Donald Shields, and Merle Recker.

Leonore was born March 31, 1924, near Prairieburg, the daughter of Edward and Bessie (Kraus) Holub. On October 11, 1945, Leonore was united in marriage to Joseph Petrick at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Prairieburg. Leonore and Joseph farmed northwest of Prairieburg. Leonore always had a large garden and canned vegetables for her large family. She would work side by side with Joseph, helping with the animals and in the fields. Leonore loved to go fishing, hunt for mushrooms, take care of her flowers, play cards, sewing, quilting and crocheting. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Leonore will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Leonore’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Garnett Place and Hiawatha Care Center for all the wonderful care given to Leonore.
