Laurence E. Benion

CENTER POINT - Laurence E. Benion, 72, of Center Point, died Monday, May 11, 1987, in St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born March 17, 1915, at Saskatchewan, Canada, and married Ivadell Stanford on Dec. 24, 1931, at Winthroop. Mr. Benion owned and operated the Center Point Produce business from 1945 until 1961, then operated Benion Nursing Home in 1976. He was a member of the Center Point Fire Department from 1946 until 1971 and served as fire chief for many years. He also served on the Center Point City Council.

Survivors include his wife; a son, L.D. of Manchester; a daughter, Andrae Castek of Center Point; six grandchildren.

Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, Murdoch Chapel in Center Point, by the Rev. Lee Wiley of Urbana Christian Church. Burial: Alice Cemetery, rural Center Point. Friends may call at the chapel from 4 to 9 p.m. today. A memorial fund has been established.
