Roger Neil Marks (1929-2020)

Roger Neil Marks, 91 of Lisbon died peacefully with his wife by his side on Sunday, June 28, 2020 at the Rehabilitation Center of Lisbon from natural causes. Private visitation and services on Thursday at Teahen Funeral Home by Rev. Monica Banks. Public burial: 11:45 a.m. at Linwood Cemetery.
Roger is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary of Lisbon; three daughters, Barbara (Troy) Freeman of Dallas, TX, Tamara Marks (Mike Schroeder) and Kimberly (Mike) Myhre of Cedar Rapids three sons, Jeff (Jean) Marks of Colorado Springs, CO, Timothy Marks of Denver, CO and, Tom Marks (Dixie Bixler) of Mt. Vernon; fifteen grandchildren, Heather Bruce, Mike Vowell, Leah Marks, Neil Marks, Kara Dawkins, Zachary Marks, Heather Schroeder, Ben Myhre, Matthew Myhre, Nathan Myhre, Erykah Marks, Sara Marks, Lauren Marks, Kyle Marks and Hanna Marks; nine great-grandchildren, Fiona Vowell, Nolan Marks, Naomi Marks, Isabell Dawkins, Ethan Sloan, Lily Sloan, Kayden Marks, Gage Marks, Aspyn Marks, Paris Strunk, Wyatt Myhre, Ellie Myhre and Ziva Taveras.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joann; his children Marcia Anderson and Daryl Plumber; brothers, Richard (Lois) Marks and Murray (Alice) Marks; granddaughter, Katie Vowell; and son-in-law, Troy Freeman.
Roger was born on May 14, 1929 in Moline, IL, son of Neil and Elizabeth Tomlinson Marks and attended Harrison Elementary and graduated in 1947 from Roosevelt High School. He served in the Air Force in Korea. On May 22, 1954 Roger married Mary Kapfer in Marion. He started working as a carpenter, but eventually began a career in electrical design, building electrical control panels, retiring in 1995.
Roger was a very talented woodworker and his workshop was full of equipment. His work life largely involved designing intricate wiring diagrams for complex machinery. Roger was always making more of whatever home he and Mary occupied and saw dust as an occupational hazard. His favorite saying was “that’s the way the pickle squirts!” Roger was a wonderful man and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to the family.
