Mrs. James Bell Dead. An Old Settler of Cedar Rapids Goes to Her Reward t the Ripe Age of Three Score and Ten.

At one o'clock this morning Mrs. James Bell died at her late residence, No 79 Fifth avenue. She had been a sufferer from cancer of the stomach and for the year past had been an invalid, feeling that it was only a question of a short time when the angel of death would summon her hence. At the ripe old age of three score and ten last night she answered its summons, and leaves behind her the memory of a woman of noble charities, a woman whose heart was full of tenderness. March 1, 1867 Mrs. Bell with her husband came to Cedar Rapids where he engaged in the dry goods trade, in which he continued for about fourteen years. She was a member of the First Baptist church of this city and until age interrupted the work, was prominent in the W.C.T.U work and in the work of many of the charitable societies. She leaves to mourn her loss a daughter, Mrs. Clara Ellis of St. Louis, and a son, Malcom Bell of this city. The funeral services will occur at the Baptist church on Wednesday at 2 p.m., Rev Dr. Garton officiating. Mrs. Ellis was at the bedside of her mother in her late illness to comfort her in her dying moments. Mrs. Haft of Rapids City, Dak., and Mrs. Hunter of Chariton, sisters of the deceased, are expected today to attend the funeral.
