VIOLA -- John E. Allen, 67, died unexpectedly on Sunday, Jan. 1, at his home, following a heart attack.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 3, at 2 p.m., at the Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa. Rev. J. Ellis Webb officiated. Burial was in the Wilcox cemetery, Viola.

Pallbearers were George Studer, Lawrence Burmeister, Springville; James Peet, Robert Peet, Lester Knight and Harry Newlin.

He was born April 4, 1891, son of Adolphas and Laura Whiting Allen. He was married on Feb. 16, 1915, to Mae Rumple.

Survivors include his wife, Mae; two daughters, Mrs. Doris Durgin, Marion, and Betty Palmanteer, Japan; two sons, Dale Allen, Conroy, and Don Allen, Marion.

Other survivors include two sisters, Maude Randal, Anamosa, and Minnie Larson, Mount Vernon; and one brother, William T. Allen, Anamosa.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Allen and Roy Allen.
